Public holidays feed straight into the working time account: on a public holiday nobody has to account for hours. So that Zirko knows the right ones, you tell it once where your business sits.
Settings → Company → Days off. The Office – Admin may change them.
Choose the federal state or canton
In Germany and Austria you pick the federal state, in Switzerland the canton — Corpus Christi is a day off in Bavaria and not in Berlin. After that, the list of statutory public holidays appears by itself and is recalculated for every year; you maintain nothing by hand. The year buttons let you page to the previous and the next year — say, to prepare bridge days in autumn. Other countries of business name the region differently — province, state, region. Where a country has no regions at all (Luxembourg, Ireland, Czechia, Sweden, Finland, Estonia, Poland, Romania), the choice is dropped and the nationwide list appears right away.
Without a chosen region, Zirko deliberately shows no list. The nationwide holidays alone would be incomplete — and an incomplete list looks like a finished one.
What a public holiday does in time tracking
- No daily target. On a public holiday Zirko demands no hours — nobody ends up short on the working time account.
- No request. “Public holiday” is a time type of its own that nobody applies for; it follows from your business's calendar.
- No day of leave. A public holiday does not eat into the leave entitlement.
- Half public holidays exist in Switzerland — in Valais, 24 December is off from 12:00. Zirko then cuts the daily target to the morning.
Deselecting public holidays
Every public holiday has a toggle. Whatever you deselect, time tracking treats like a normal working day — anyone who wants that day off then needs leave. The deselection holds for all years, movable holidays like Easter included.
Additional days off
Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve, bridge days, company holidays: in the second card you enter a date and a name and press Add. These days work like public holidays — no daily target. But they hang on a fixed date and count for their year only: bridge days are set anew each year.
When something is off
- “The stored region does not belong to the country that is set” — after a change of country the old code stays behind. Choose the region again; until then Zirko shows no holidays rather than wrong ones.
- The list does not load — say, without a connection. Zirko says so and restores the last saved selection; nothing gets lost silently.
What does not work today
- The region applies per business, not per employee or site. If you work across several federal states, choose the region where your business is based.
- There is no deselecting for a single year — a deselected holiday is off in all years until you switch it back on.
